I had a customer at work needing help getting FRING working on a simbian device. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find much help other than what i gave out. (this is for nodephone)

But after a few hours of pouring over forums & blogs, I almost gave up! They all mentioned 2 hidden ways of doing a hard reset. They are as follows:

If your phone is turned off, and won’t go past Omnia black screen
1. Hold the power on & call & end keys simultaenously for about 5 seconds.
Alternatively, turn on and when the Omnia screen appears, hold down the call & end keys.

If your phone is already turned on:
1. Hold down the call & end keys & TAP (not hold) the soft reset button hole.

Either method you choose with get to the same place, a black screen asking if you want to reset. Call will reset.

Ok, so why is Jamesuk such a legend? Because after at least 2 dozens attempts at me doing this, jamming my fingers down on the keypad trying to get it work, I stumbled upon his post.

He pointed out in his post that if you notice, when you hold down the Call & End keys, you also depress the middle button just the smallest amount. This will stop the hard reset. So instead of jamming your fingers down, press very very lightly only until you can just feel the click of the button, and on the outer side of the buttons.

I tried this, and it worked instantly. So thats how you hard reset the Samsung Omnia- properly.

Omnia Secret Keys

There are many hidden settings for Omnia and I am showing you some of them after researching the data with other Omnia users and on the internet.

*#0206*8376263# – Shows a screen with the PDA/Phone version numbers, H/W and RFCalDate.

*#197328640# – Root debug menu

*#1546792*# – (Executes \Windows\AdminSettings.exe) Shows the Administrator Settings menu. In there:

1. Version – Shows a menu where you can access the version numbers for the PDA and the Software (redirects to the Settings Version applet)
2. Preconfiguration – Password is *#81230*#. Allows to preconfigure the Omnia Operator settings by changing the country and operator. Note: Changing this will hard-reset the device. This won’t lock the device with the specified operator.
3. Network-Call Setting:
1. Power On Attach: (Attach [default] or Detach) ???
2. Service Domain: (Combined [default], CS or PS) Changes which service domain to use.
3. Network mode: (Auto [default], GSM or WCDMA) Changes the data connexion mode. WCDMA is 3G.
4. Network order (Auto [default], GSM first, WCDMA first or No change) Changes which mode to try first when connecting, with Network Mode on Auto.
4. Internal – Password is unknown. I’m not sure what it does.

*#0002*28346# – Opens the Audio control utility, where you can adjust low-level volumes.

*#7465625# – (Executes \Windows\Personalize.exe %LOCK_STATUS_INFO) Shows the status of the Network, Service Provider, SIM or Corporation lock.

*#92782# – (Executes \Windows\uamgr.exe) Shows the UA profile settings.

*#232337# – (Executes \Windows\bthrftest.exe) Shows the Bluetooth RF tester and the device address.

*#32489# – (GSM test) Shows the ciphering status and options to enable or disable it.

*#7451# – (Nothing happens?)

*#7450# – (Nothing happens?)

*#2263# – (Executes \Windows\bandsel.exe -band) (GSM test) Shows the GSM band selection screen, with the options Automatic [default], GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900, 850/190 and 900/1800.

*#1234# – (Executes \Windows\KSReset.exe #Version) Shows the PDA and the Phone version number.

*#0782# – (Executes \Windows\RTCViewer.exe) Shows the Clock & Alarms settings.

*#0673# – (Executes \Windows\PlaySound.exe) Shows Audio sound tests.

*#9090# – (GSM test) UART/USB settings.

*#0842# – Shows tests for the Vibration, the Back Light and the Alert LED (Power buttton LED).

*#2580# – (GSM test) Integrity settings.

*#0228# – (GSM test) Shows the detailed GSM status: Antenna signal power, served network mode, temperature, Battery, Voltage (Antenna ADC test)

*#2222# – (GSM test) Shows the FTA hardware version.

*#1111# – (GSM test) Shows the FTA software version.

*#0011# – (Executes \Windows\TestMode.exe) (GSM test) Shows some more detailed GSM (Basic Information) status.

*#745# – Dumps SLOG, whatever it is, and shows a message.

*#06# – Shows IMEI number.

*#1*# – (Executes \Windows\Line_KeyTest.exe)

*#0*# – (Executes \Windows\LCDTest.exe) Shows a menu to test LCD colors, bootup melody, vibration, dimming, back camera, front camera, touchscreen, light sensor, sleep mode and mouse. The accelerometer data is also displayed at the bottom

iContacts is a really good contact application for people who aren’t a  big fan of the one that Omnia came with. It emulates the iPhones’ contact list, and does it well. The application is fast & very clean looking- I didn’t come across any errors while testing this one out. I’ve definately unpinned Phonebook and replaced it with iContacts on my menu.

thanks for your help…another question, my previous samsung mobile had the facilaty to keep ringing when a message has been received, does the omnia have this, as it was rather good.

I take this to mean you want a setting that ‘beeps’ or ‘alerts’ you to a message being received, rather than the phone continously ringing until you pick it up and check it?

While I’m yet to find a setting which lets the Omnia *ring* continously when a message is received- you can get your omnia to alert you to it.

By going into your Settings (Personal Tab)-> Sounds & Notifications->Notifications-> In this area you can change the notications of different things. If you change the ‘Event’ type to New SMS Message, while you cannot choose for it to ‘repeat’, you can select for ther light to flash for a period of time. I knot it’s not a perfect solution,  but this might be better than nothing.

Again, if anyone knows of a way around this, please let us know!

i heard of this gps software, igo 8, i think its called and that it was compatible with omnia. heard about it on torrent site so dont know if its free or not. will be getting this phone from verizon in couple of days and not sure if vrz navigator is free on it or if it is inferior to any others. supposed to be worlds better than tom tom and garmin. any ideas?”

The iGO 8 is a piece of nifty software created by Nav N Go. It’s a complete 3D GPS software bundle. It has map coverage for 43 contries, 30 languaged, and apparently runs really well. Released in April 2008, iGo is NOT freeware.

I have only found this available in Europe & America at the moment (bad luck Australia & England).

From one shop I checked out, it cost €124.17 ($254.12au,  $180.66us)

This seems to be a more high-end GPS software, and much more expensive than others I have seen. I find it a little interesting. In Australia (mine at least) the Omnia was released with GPS map program called Samsung Mobile Navigator. It’s a Samsung made application which is a full-fledged software like Tom Tom, etc. It had a default map of Europe with licence, so I’m guessing it was supplied over there to, however I simply synched the licences & it worked for free with the Au maps. Perhaps the U.S. maps will do the same? Who knows!

More to the point, no- this is not freeware (the Igo 8), and so I will not be supporting it yet- & I won’t be putting links to illegal torrents I’m sorry!

got an omnia & happy with it so far, but I have spent a week searching for the option to check my outgoing call timer log…have a contract which always me 2hrs of talk time for free and wish to know whether i have exceeded this and want to be able to reset the timer at the end of the month…had this option on my previous two samsung mobile phones but cannot find it on my omnia…can you help, thanks.

Hey Graziella! I’ve had a thorough look around on the phone & there unfortunately is no quick answer to this. Unlike any other phone I’ve had also, I can’t find in any normal place a quick list of all call durations. I would have thought that this would be in the ‘call log’ app, but directly, it’s not! While this isn’t a major thing for most of us, I understand how you’d be using it, and think it’s a good idea!

What I did find was that if you open your ‘Call Log’, it lists times for each of them. These screen shots are my last few calls (I don’t call much).

When you open the Call Log, the call duration for each individual call is shown here

If you then select the contact from Call Log, you will be presented with a screen like this.

If you then Click Open Calls at the bottom Left, you will get an itemised call list for the Contact. This lists the calls duration for the contact.

I haven’t yet come across anywhere which will simply tell me the total call duration for ALL calls, but I’m determined that it must be hidden somewhere! If anyone can help with this, let us know! Thanks!
